Water Conservation

The Sir M. Visvesvaraya Rainwater Harvesting Theme Park, located in Jayanagar, Bengaluru, is a dedicated space for educating visitors about sustainable water conservation practices. Developed by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and guided by water expert A.R. Shivakumar, the park spans 1.5 acres and features 26 models showcasing different rainwater harvesting techniques. These include methods suitable for homes, businesses, and larger facilities, some requiring minimal expertise for implementation.
The park also includes an auditorium for educational videos, gardens demonstrating water-efficient plant cultivation, and interactive Q&A sessions. Its goal is to promote rainwater harvesting as a solution to water scarcity and reduce reliance on external water sources.
For more information or a visit, the park is located at 40th Cross Road, 5th Block, Jayanagar, Bengaluru, and operates Monday through Friday from 10:30 AM to 5 PM.

KRS (Krishna Raja Sagara) near Mysore:

1. Krishna Raja Sagara Dam

Location: Near Mandya, about 18 km from Mysore, Karnataka, India.
River: Built across the Kaveri River, with contributions from its tributaries, Hemavati and Lakshmana Tirtha.

Named After: Maharaja Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV of Mysore.

Architect: Designed by the renowned engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya in 1932.

Purpose:

Provides irrigation to the Mandya and Mysore regions.

Supplies drinking water to Mysore, Mandya, Bengaluru, and other areas.


Capacity: Originally built with a storage capacity of 49.5 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic feet).

Engineering Marvel: At the time of its construction, it was one of the largest dams in Asia.

2. Brindavan Gardens

Location: At the base of the dam, it is an iconic garden known for its beauty.

Features:

Musical Fountain: A popular attraction where lights and water dance to music.

Boating: Visitors can enjoy boat rides on the water.

Horticulture: Famous for its well-maintained lawns, flower beds, and ornamental trees.


Visiting Hours:

Morning: 6:30 AM - 9:00 AM (For joggers and walkers).

Evening: 2:30 PM - 8:00 PM.


3. Tourism

Best Time to Visit: August to February, during monsoon and winter seasons when the dam and gardens are most scenic.

Entry Fee:

Adults: Around ₹20–₹30.

Musical Fountain: Separate charge of around ₹50.

By Road: Easily accessible by car or bus from Mysore (18 km).

Nearest Railway Station: Mysore Junction.

Nearest Airport: Mysore Airport (around 35 km away).
